Nine-year-old Ezra Blount died this past Sunday despite doctors’ efforts, bringing the fatal Astroworld concert’s death toll to 10 people.
Famed civil rights attorney Ben Crump reportedly represented Ezra’s family after the tragic events at Astroworld. According to CNN, the boy’s family filed a lawsuit against Live Nation, a promoting company that helped organize the event, alleging that they were negligent.
In a statement obtained by CNN, Crump commented on Ezra’s injuries and untimely death, “The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son. This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, which should have been a joyful celebration. Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking.”

“We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight, we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer,” the high-profile lawyer continued.
Ezra reportedly attended the Astroworld Festival with his father, Treston Blount. Ezra’s grandfather claimed that the 9-year-old fell off of his dad’s shoulders during the crowd surge, telling CNN about the night’s deadly turn, “When my son went to the concert, he had my grandson on his shoulder. All the people pushed in, and he could not breathe, so he ended up passing out because of all the pressure that was being applied to his body. And when he passed out, Ezra fell off his shoulder and fell into the crowd.”

The grandfather then revealed that Ezra was transported to a local children’s hospital, but only identified as John Doe, continuing, “They did not know anything about him, his name or anything because he got separated from my son,”
Ezra is the latest person to be confirmed dead as a result of Astroworld’s melee. According to the Associated Press, the crowd featured approximately 50,000 people, many of whom were crushed, as fans attempted to push and move forward. One attendant shared their frightening experience with the news outlet, recalling, “Everyone was passing out around you, and everyone was trying to help each other. But you just couldn’t move. You couldn’t do anything. You can’t even pick your arms up.”
So far, Travis Scott and others have been hit with over 100 lawsuits related to the Houston concert.
