A Halloween party turned deadly in Illinois on October 31, leaving 12 people injured and two people dead.
According to a Facebook post by the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the bash in Joliet Township was the scene of a mass shooting that occurred at 12:30 am. Sheriffs were close to the party because of previous noise complaints when gunfire erupted. When the smoke cleared, a woman and a man, 22, were dead from gunshot wounds, and the wounded were transported to a nearby hospital.
Detectives stated that the party invite, which was posted on social media, was only for friends of the residents of the home but turned into an all-out free-for-all when uninvited guests showed up. Authorities said the shooting might be gang-related.
NBC Chicago reported that more than 100 partygoers fled the scene once the shooting started. The news outlet disclosed that there were 200 attendees at the fiesta.
Two suspects were described as a Hispanic male wearing a red hoodie and a light-skinned Black/ or Hispanic male wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask. Authorities claim the men bust shots from the porch where the party was located.
“All of a sudden, as we’re dancing and stuff by the patio, shots started going off like by the porch,” Adolfo Sandoval, who was at the party, told WGN. “Even when we ran, we were just getting bombarded everywhere/ Everyone was getting stepped on.”
Witnesses have been reluctant to come forward, sheriffs told NBC Chicago. The investigation is ongoing and Will County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information to come forward.
