Henry Ruggs III, a former wide receiver for the NFL, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 2, after reportedly being involved in a fatal crash in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the NFL’s official website, the 22-year-old was released Tuesday evening but is now facing charges for “DUI resulting in the death of another person” and reckless driving.
Prosecutors believe Ruggs, 22, was speeding up to 156 mph before the crash and had a blood alcohol concentration of .161, which is two times the legal limit in Nevada, NBC News reported about the incident.

According to NBC News, Ruggs was allegedly speeding in a Corvette at 3:30 am when his vehicle crashed into the back of a Toyota Rav4. A victim, later identified as 23-year-old Tina Tintor, was tragically killed with her dog after her vehicle became engulfed in flames.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a female passenger in the vehicle with Ruggs sustained severe injuries along with the football star, and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Officials in Clark County, Nevada, initially sought out a $1 million bail amount for the former Las Vegas Raiders player. Still, after appearing in court Wednesday, a judge set his bail at $150,000. Ruggs reportedly showed up to court in a wheelchair and wearing a neck brace, likely resulting from his injuries.

NBC News reported that Joe Bonaventure, a Las Vegas-area justice of the peace, commented on Rugg’s alleged high-speed driving, “I cannot recall a speed that high in my career on the bench.” Bonaventure reportedly also ordered him to give up his passport and abstain from alcohol and drugs.
In addition to the serious charges he’s now facing, Ruggs could also be charged with “possession of a weapon while intoxicated,” NBC News reported after a firearm was allegedly recovered from the Corvette. According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Eric Bauman, Ruggs could be looking at a maximum of 46 years behind bars if convicted on the charges.
