Thirty-six-year-old Curtis Abraham, a Black filmmaker from Nevada, was killed on November 4 in a random store shooting after the suspect, suited up in tactical gear, shot him while he was in his car.
According to a news release sent by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), that night, the department was alerted about shots being fired at a convenience store located in the 7700 block of South Jones Boulevard. Police said Abraham was waiting for his girlfriend while she went inside the establishment. When the shooting started, she hid in the store’s refrigerator cooler with a store clerk, and other store shoppers ran out the back door.
Officers, who arrived on the scene, discovered the filmmaker with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car in the parking lot. He was later transported to UMC Hospital, where he died.
According to the Associated Press, the suspect was identified as 22-year-old Jesus Javier Uribe.
Uribe reportedly arrived at the convenience store, walked to a car in the parking lot, and fired multiple shots into the driver’s side, which hit and fatally wounded the man.

Prosecutor Richard Scow said police officers later found 13 bullet casings outside the store and seven bullet casings inside the store, but no one in the store was injured.
The suspect was also accused of robbing a bystander after a confrontation before arriving at the store.
Police said a tip by a local led to Uribe’s arrest after officials issued a public request for help.
On Thursday, Uribe refused to attend a court hearing, and a judge took his absence as an order for him to be sent to jail without bail pending arraignment.
Uribe has been charged with several felony charges, including murder and attempted murder, and other expected charges, including robbery, burglary, and illegal discharge of a weapon.
