After falsely accusing jazz musician Keyon Harrold’s teenage son of stealing her phone in a New York hotel, the woman dubbed “SoHo Karen” is now proving (yet again) that she can’t practice self-control. During a court appearance for the December 2020 incident, Miya Ponsetto cut off a Manhattan criminal court job, telling him she doesn’t want to go to jail.
Well, obviously.
At Monday’s hearing, the judge asked Ponsetto’s attorney whether or not she wanted to “waive time,” which means to extend proceedings beyond a “speedy trial” timeframe. Depending on the court case, extra time could be beneficial to the client, as it allows more time to prepare and research.

According to the New York Post, Ponsetto interrupted the judge, saying “Waiving time? I would not like to spend time in jail.”
Her attorney, clearly fed up, responded, “Miya, Miya. Please don’t say anything. I’ll talk.”
Last December, Ponsetto boldly accused Keyon Harrold Jr., 14, of stealing her iPhone with zero evidence. The incident occurred at Arlo Hotel in SoHo, where Harrold and his son were guests. But that apparently wasn’t the start of her legal trouble.
In May 2020, Ponsetto was arrested for driving under the influence. The 22-year-old was pulled over for driving “erratically” and copped to taking Xanax and drinking wine prior, according to TMZ.
Ponsetto resisted arrest after an officer tried to handcuff her, and proceeded to have a meltdown, kicking and hitting her head on the ground.
“SoHo Karen” has since apologized for her role in the hotel incident and claims that the attack wasn’t “racially-motivated.” But that isn’t enough for the Harrold family, who are certain that Harrold Jr. was targeted due to his race. According to CBS New York, they are suing Ponsetto as well as the hotel and manager.
“My son was targeted as a Black young man,” Harrold Sr. said. “And this needs to stop right now.”
