The FBI has reportedly arrested a former high-ranking Kansas detective accused of corruption and sexually exploiting vulnerable Black women.
According to The Kansas City Star, Roger Golubski was reportedly arrested on Sept. 15. He was also charged on six counts of civil rights violations, alleging that during his tenure with the Kansas City Police Department, he sexually abused a Black woman and teenager over 20 years ago. Five counts additionally allege that he kidnapped or tried to kidnap the victims.
The rape allegations against Golubski reportedly occurred after Lamonte McIntyre–whom the ex-detective allegedly framed for a double homicide after his mother, Rose, declined his sexual advances–was exonerated in 2017. A lawsuit filed by both McIntyre and his mother accused the Kansas City Police Department of being aware of Golubski’s alleged reputation of sexually abusing Black women and doing nothing about it.
McIntyre’s lawyers guessed that Golubski allegedly preyed on 70 women in total. He reportedly fathered multiple children, and at least one of his co-workers allegedly caught him having a sexual encounter with a woman in his office.
Although the federal indictment didn’t name the victims, it indicated that the predator allegedly raped them on several occasions from 1998 to 2002 and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
“The arrest of Roger Golubski is a long overdue message to the community that the police are not immune from prosecution when they break the law,” David Grummon of the Metro Organization For Racial and Economic Equity; a social justice group that sought Golubski’s arrest said. “More importantly, it signals that it’s now safe for the rest of his victims to come forward, report what he did, and, hopefully, finally have an opportunity to pursue justice.”
The former Kansas City detective had previously worked in law enforcement for over 35 years, as he began fulfilling the role in 1986. He was then promoted to captain in 2002 before retiring in 2010 and, after collecting his pension, served as a detective for the Edwardsville Police Department until 2016.
Ophelia Williams, who said Golubski raped her in 1999, reportedly said an FBI agent called her to notify her about his recent arrest due to corruption.
“She put him in handcuffs herself. I was so happy. Oh, so happy. Crying and stuff,” Williams said.
