A 32-year-old Philadelphia woman died after being pinned between two ambulances on Saturday, Sept. 10.
Nisha Jaia Renee Dash worked a shift as an emergency medical technician that Saturday in Germantown, Pennsylvania. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the incident happened on the 200 block of West Chelten Avenue. One ambulance vehicle arrived to transport a patient while the second, unoccupied ambulance arrived for assistance and parked behind the first vehicle.
The driver of the first ambulance remained in the vehicle while his co-workers worked to unload the patient. The second ambulance driver got out of the car, leaving the motor running under the assumption it was in park.
However, the vehicle began to roll backward. The driver responded by getting back into the emergency vehicle and intending to push the break “but depressed the accelerator,” crushing Dash to death.
Dash was transported to Einstein Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead at 11:05 a.m.
Dash’s family took to Facebook, expressing how heartbreaking the news was for the family.
“…The pain I feel is indescribable; the hole will never be filled…I had so much joy being your Mommom… Jesus, I ask for your strength and that you whole my other GRANDS in your arms as they mourn the loss of their cousin,” Kathleen Bennett Gould wrote on Facebook. “We are all in pain. Nisha, I know your Dad, Pete Dash, has you in his arms. She lost her life doing what she loved, helping people. I am so proud of you; you loved your job, the most caring EMT. NISHA J. DASH. I will always love you.”
A GofundMe campaign was created to help the family cover funeral expenses and “any additional costs.”
According to the campaign, Dash was “loving and caring” and carried a “bubbly personality and bright smile that would light up any room.”
The incident remains under investigation.
