Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the incident occurred before the victim dropped Jacobs off and that, afterward, he walked back to his motel room.

“It took place in the vehicle,” Lopinto said. “A major stab wound that incapacitated her almost immediately.”

According to the sheriff, the suspect told police that he woke up that morning and decided to kill someone. The disgruntled passenger seemingly planned to murder the first Uber driver he encountered but realized he needed a ride back to the place he was staying. After his ride, he allegedly stabbed Dillion, who gave him a ride back to the Travelodge in Jefferson Parish in the 2200 block of the West Bank Expressway.

“I didn’t pick her; Uber picked her,” the 29-year-old told investigators, Lopinto said. He added that Jacobs posted a video of Dillion dying on Facebook, but the sheriff’s office contacted the social media company to request that it be taken down.

“Luckily, he does not have a lot of followers,” the sheriff said.

Detectives reportedly worked with Uber to get information on the fare picked up by Dillion and then arrested the deranged man. He’s currently being held on a second-degree murder count.

“Our team is taking it pretty hard,” NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said about the tragic occurrence, sharing that Dillion was important to the department.

“She will be dearly missed. She was quiet. She was humble. She was a quiet giant.”
