Dollar General Employee Rafus Anderson of Louisiana has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to an inmate intake report by the Monroe Police Department (MPD).
On January 2, the 31-year-old Dollar General clerk allegedly shot the armed gunman who was reportedly attempting to rob the Monroe store. According to KNOE, Anderson shot the unidentified gunman and a customer after he allegedly made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. MPD responded to the scene after receiving a call about the shooting. Upon arrival, the suspect was discovered outside the Dollar General in a pile of cash he had allegedly stolen.
Anderson told police that he closed the store and left the scene. He also went to the police department to give a statement. He was taken into custody on January 3. The employee claimed that the suspect had a gun as he allegedly robbed the Dollar General and feared that he would be killed.
The 32-year-old man also shared that he didn’t realize that the suspect had been wounded because the assailant continued to run. Anderson revealed the specific location had been held up six times since August.
The customer who was hit sustained injuries but was later treated and released from the hospital. However, the suspect died.
