A London mother died on Dec. 7, 2022, the night before her wedding in Trinidad, which devastated her fiancé, who was unaware of her sickness, according to a My London report.
Nadia Joseph-Gosine, 33, and her fiancée Devon Gosine, 37, were excited the night of her death because the following day, they were going to exchange vows and “I dos.”
The two were together for five years and were long distant. They planned to have the wedding in Trinidad, where Gosine lived. In the weeks leading up to the wedding day, Joseph-Gosine and her 10-year-old son Emari spent time with her lover.
“I can’t stop being reminded of what happened. Seeing everything and still, I’m in disbelief. After all that time, we were finally getting married,” Gosine told the outlet, holding back tears. “We were preparing for the rest of our life, and all of a sudden, it gets taken away. It was the toughest thing.”
Before going to bed, the two stayed up talking to friends on the phone who called to wish them the best for their wedding day. After deciding to go to sleep, Gosine noticed that Joseph-Gosine was restless but assumed it was pre-wedding jitters.
Gosine said that he cuddled his fiancée and kissed her goodnight, and she went to sleep. Around 2 a.m., he woke up and did his routine kiss on the cheek, but she didn’t respond. After discovering she was unresponsive, he called medical personnel for help, but the 45-minute resuscitation attempts failed.
“It just happened all of a sudden,” he said. “At least she didn’t have to suffer.”
According to Joseph-Gosine’s sister, Isha Daley, she did have issues with her liver and kidneys and thinks that’s what led to her death.
Joseph-Gosine did see doctors about her organ-related illnesses, but Daley soon learned that her sister would’ve died with or without medical treatment because doctors realized the liver was severely damaged and procedures wouldn’t have made a difference.
“She just wanted to be happy. A little firecracker. She was very beautiful. Absolutely stunning. And she loved life, loved to travel,” Daley said.
Gosine is deeply devastated about losing the love of his life so soon but will never forget the kind of person she was.
“She would go all out for you, and she was the most hard-working,” Gosine said. “She was always happy. Whatever she was going through, she was always happy. She was the love of my life. She was always the best part of my life.”
Joseph-Gosine left behind Emari, who, according to the family, understands that his mother is gone, but they try to keep him distracted.
Gosine said he’s ready to be Emari’s custodial parent while in Trinidad. Daley will be his guardian when he returns to Europe, where his biological father resides, but Daley doesn’t know where to find him.
Daley created a GoFundMe campaign to help the family bring Emari back to Europe and cremate Joseph-Gosine.
