BCU’s Head Coach Ed Reed Slammed The School For Its Poor Conditions And Said ‘All’ HBCUs Need Help

"All of our HBCUs need help. And they need help because of the people who's running it. Broken mentalities out here," Reed said in his rant.

Ed Reed, Bethune-Cookman University’s new coach and former NFL star, slammed the university on Instagram Live on Sunday morning for its campus conditions and credited himself for supposedly doing more for the school in a week than those who worked at the school for years.

In the recently-deleted video, Reed stated that “Prime,” referring to Jackson State’s former head coach Deion Sanders, wasn’t wrong and implied that his agreeing to be BCU’s head coach was his first step in helping HBCUs.

“I’m just here to help here first,” Reed said. “I see it oh too clearly. All of our HBCUs need help. And they need help because of the people who’s running it. Broken mentalities out here. I’m going to leave you with that. I got to get in the office.”

Reed went on a more vulgar tirade in another video responding to commenters who accused the head coach of denigrating HBCUs.

“But now, I’m out here walking with the football team picking up trash,” he said. “But I’m muttin’ us, man. Get out of here, man. I should leave. I’m not even under contract doing this. I’m muttin’ us? Man, get out of here, man. They muttin’ me. These motherf**kers ain’t even clean my g*****n office when I got here.”

He continued his rant, “Don’t need no g*****n donors to come out help out ’cause people just want money! That’s why I don’t f**k with social network. F**k out of here, man!”

Monday, Reed apologized on Twitter for his “lack of professionalism.”

“[In] regards to my social media and comments about the University, staff and other institutions, I would like to sincerely apologize to all BCU staff, students and alumni for my lack of professionalism,” the statement read. “My language and tone were unacceptable as a father, coach and leader.”

The apology continued, “My passion for our culture, betterment and bringing our foundation up got the best of me, and I fell victim while engaging with antagonists on social media as well. I am fully aware of the hard-working folks at our school who are also fighting to make things better and more financially sound.”
