The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested a Coffee County elementary school principal on Feb. 24, and she’s facing a hefty amount of charges.

According to a GBI press release, 51-year-old Anastagia Carter was charged with two counts of first-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of third-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of simple battery. Without going into detail, GBI stated that incidents inside Indian Creek Elementary School led to the principal’s arrest and charges.
The incidents did involve Carter and a student. The Coffee County Board of Education Police Department received word regarding the incidents and got the GBI involved. Amid its investigation of Carter, the GBI found out about a second occurrence, leading to Carter being taken into custody by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
The school district released a statement on the matter.
“The Coffee County School System has been notified of allegations concerning the principal at Indian Creek Elementary School,” the statement read. “When this matter first came to the attention of the school system, a report was immediately made to the Department of Family and Children Services and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The principal was immediately placed and remains on administrative leave. The GBI is leading the investigation, and all questions and concerns should be directed to the Region 4 Investigative Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Douglas.”
