A stray bullet struck an 18-year-old at his college baseball game in Texas on Sunday. Police are currently investigating the incident and looking for two suspects.

According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department, the unnamed 18-year-old Texas A&M – Texarkana ball player stood in the bullpen area of the George Dobson Field at Spring Lake Park around 5:30 on Sunday when a stray bullet struck him. Medical personnel rushed the young student to St. Michael Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The game was called off after the shooting.

TTPD claimed the incident occurred due to a fight in a nearby neighborhood on Lynda Street, west of Spring Lake Park. Officers were dispatched to the park and the street where the shooting happened.

Several shell casings sat in the home’s front yard when officers arrived at the shooting scene. Police said two men shot at each other in front of the house, and one of the bullets traveled around 400 years, striking the innocent college student.

TTPD asserted that 17-year-old Kamauri Butler and 20-year-old Demarco Banks were the perceived perpetrators in the incident. However, Banks and Butler managed to escape before the police arrived.

The police arrested three other men at the scene when investigators arrived. They achieved a search warrant for the house and the vehicles at the scene.

Yankeengea Smith, 49, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and for possessing methamphetamine and ecstasy pills. Police arrested 19-year-old Nathan Moore for tampering with evidence and possessing marijuana. Marcell Beaver, 19, got arrested for possessing marijuana.

“We’re told that the victim is in stable condition at the hospital today,” TTPD said on Sunday, the day of the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, and his teammates.”

Texarkana police clarified that the suspects weren’t driving around Spring Lake Park or at the park when the shooting happened.

Police are asking for help. Those who know Banks and Butler’s current location should call 903-798-3876 or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
