An Alaskan organization that defends the constitutional rights of Blacks was met with a racial obscenity splayed on their building on Friday. According to the org, this was the third time.
According to Alaska’s News Source, the Alaska Black Caucus has dealt with racial slurs being painted on and inside their building, including their downtown location. Friday, the organization became aware of the horrific words sprayed on their one-story facility and was immediately frustrated.
Although they don’t know who vandalized their buildings the previous times and recently, ABC affirms that they won’t back down and refuse to move.
“This is not a message to our young people today,” Reverend Patricia Wilson-Cone told reporters. “This is not a message to the world today. This is not a message to anybody, regardless of your race, your faith, or what you subscribe to and making it a better world. This is not a positive light and a positive message. We have zero tolerance for it.”
ABC has reported each incident to the Anchorage Police Department, and so far, there aren’t any updates.
Last year, staff members found offensive graffiti outside the office on the sidewalk.
On ABC’s Facebook page, they shared what was written on their building.
“Yvng [young] thug n***as,” the grafiti read.
“Yes, the Alaska Black Caucus building was graffitied with racist epithets, but guess what, WE’RE NOT MOVING! In fact, the only move you will see from ABC is toward equity, equality and justice until victory is won! We hope you join us by supporting the upcoming Bettye Davis African American Summit, becoming a member of the Alaska Black Caucus or donating to our cause.”
In a following Facebook post, ABC thanked everyone for their support and reassured them that they weren’t giving up.
“When they go low, the Atlanta Black Caucus (with the assistance of our supporters) goes high. Details to follow…We’re thankful for many in this community who support our work. We’re here to stay!”
