The manhunt for a suspected murderer finally came to an end early Monday morning when police captured Tyler Terry after a week-long search. Although more than 300 officers surrounded the suspect, he was arrested without incident in South Carolina, Yahoo! reported.
Terry had been on the lam for about a week after running from a wrecked car and fired at police officers on May 17. Terry, along with a female driver, attempted to evade the police when an officer checked the parked car in a Bojangles parking lot after hours. The chase ended about 30 miles away. Warrants for attempted murder were issued for the 27-year-old suspect shortly thereafter. The driver was arrested and charged with ignoring a blue light.
Investigators believe that Terry broke into sheds or barns while he was missing. He stole a gun and clothes from an unlocked truck sometime last week. Although Chester County had helicopters looking for the suspect, they could not spot him until Monday, when he was seen hiding in weeds.
Terry was then charged with the shooting death of the estranged husband of the woman who was with him during the car chase the week before. Her husband was killed in York, South Carolina, in early May.
The suspect is also being charged in the murders of two others who were victims when Terry allegedly robbed them on May 15 in Missouri.
The seven-day search in the same area for a suspect is one of the longest in recent memory in South Carolina. What began with 100 officers tripled as officers tried to apprehend Terry in the safest way possible.
As of Tuesday, Tyler Terry’s total charges have swelled to eight; six for attempted murder, one for murder, and one for possession of a weapon. He was denied bond on all charges in a Chester County courtroom.
Terry’s father, Donnie, said that he is not excusing his son’s behavior but believes he needs help.
There is no word on how charges in the Missouri murders will be handled.
