A Nevada woman faces a murder charge and two counts of child abuse and neglect after she reportedly locked her two children inside a hot bedroom.
According to KLAS-T, Kemaya Taylor, 23, allegedly locked her children, ages 5 and 2, inside a bedroom that did not have air conditioning. Authorities arrived on the Missouri Meadows Street house scene to discover the babies locked inside the room.
Sadly, the five-year-old child passed, but the two-year-old survived and was turned over to Child Protective Services.
On Tuesday, Taylor was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
She was scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on Thursday but reportedly did not show up.
Her preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for July 15.
On the day the children were found dead in the home, the Weather Channel reported the outside temperature in Las Vegas to be 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to sources, Taylor was outside throwing rocks at cars and acting erratically.
The woman’s landlord told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday that Taylor was struggling financially.
“Earlier in the month, she failed to pay her rent, so I texted her to make sure she was OK.”
“She put her notice in, saying she would be leaving in another month after (she) paid in full,” they added.
The landlord said, “She was in a mess.”
“Her hair was all a mess, the whole house was a mess, and she was packing. That’s when I said, ‘You know, I think it is not good you are all by yourself with two kids. You should get in touch with your family,’ and she said, ‘I have no one.’”

Neighbors said that she was acting “erratically” before police arrived at the scene.
