According to PR Newswire, a Charlotte, North Carolina native, Okeatta Brown, has officially joined Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and will spearhead the inclusion and diversity council.

Although Mitsubishi’s headquarters is based in Tokyo, Japan, Brown will continue to work stateside in Charlotte. At the same time, she’ll oversee the direction and support provided to the company’s Executive Inclusion and Diversity Council and serve as a link between MUFG’s enterprise resource groups and business unit I&D councils.

In her new role, Brown will report to Amy Ward, Chief Human Resources Officer for the Americas.

In a statement with QCitymetro, she said, “My proven record of achievements and demonstrated excellence position me well to drive MUFG’s I&D strategy to the next level with a continued focus on people, programs, clients, vendors and community.”

MUFG’s services include anything from commercial banking to consumer finance to securities and asset management.

During her time at Wells Fargo, Brown was the senior vice president and lead external engagement strategist.

In her position, she helped create opportunities to develop equity in business and philanthropy and hold long-term partnerships with historically Black colleges and universities.

She was also responsible for building strategic frameworks and solutions to advance the bank’s DEI efforts.

This hit close to home, seeing as Brown attended an HBCU herself.

She has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Johnson C. Smith University, and she later completed a Master of Business Administration at Montreat College.

”Okeatta has demonstrated a passion for service and community stewardship throughout her career, and we welcome her dedication and enthusiasm as we work to further enhance and advance our inclusion and diversity initiatives at MUFG,” said Amy Ward. “Our brand identity centers on our commitment to serving our colleagues, clients, and society through forming long-term relationships and together building a brighter future, and we look forward to Okeatta joining us on that mission.”
