Amirah O’Neal, Shaquille O’ Neal’s Daughter Joins HBCU, Texas Southern University

Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter, Amirah O’Neal, has officially committed to playing basketball for Texas Southern University.

She was a walk-on at her father’s alma mater Louisiana State University (LSU) and according to LSU, Amirah is 6’1, plays the forward position, and averaged 17.2 points per game as a junior during the 2018-2019 season.

Amirah, who reportedly has been playing since she’s been ten years old, was a 2019 MaxPreps California All-State Girls Team honorable mention as well as a two-time All-state honoree.

HBCU Gameday reported that Amirah is now the second O’Neal to commit to TSU.

Earlier this year, her younger brother Shaqir also committed to the HBCU to play for head coach Johnny Jones, former coach at LSU.

The Los Angeles native posted the announcement to her Instagram account with a caption that read, “I see the doubt in their faces; they didn’t think I would make it.”

Amirah’s sister, Me’arah, commented under her post congratulating her sister and said, “YESSSSSURRRRRRRRR.”

“TIME TO LET EM KNOOOO !! WANT ALL SMOKE,” she added.

The 19-year-old is going to be playing under the hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, head coach at TSU, and holds a great chance of making it to the SWAC Championship.

Shaq’s son Shareef currently plays for LSU, and their younger sister, Me’arah, is also going amongst Divison I ranks and could potentially choose to play for TSU with her older siblings.

The team was planning on heading to the SWAC Championship however was deterred after the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TSU’s team went 5-10 during the pandemic seriously impacted their overall last year.
