The body of a missing college student, Shawtyeria Waites, was found after being placed in the trunk of a car belonging to Jordan Potts.
Waites was last seen alive after she went out for her birthday on July 25. She was reported missing two days later, ABC 13 reported.
On Aug. 13, police found evidence of foul play in Waites’ disappearance. That evidence led them to Potts, 26, a man she may have met on a dating app and planned to meet near the exact location of the birthday party.
After executing a search warrant of Potts’ apartment, police concluded that Waites was killed inside of the apartment, her body was placed in the trunk of his vehicle, and he relocated it somewhere unknown to police at the time.
On Aug. 27, local police, with the help of the FBI, found human remains in Brookshire, a city about 35 minutes from Houston proper.
After the discovery, a warrant was issued for Potts, who went on the run.
Police notified the public that they needed tips and information regarding the case, particularly Potts’ whereabouts.

On Sept. 2, police announced that Potts had been found and arrested in his native Oregon the day before, reported Click2Houston.
Local activist, Quanell X, expressed his belief that Potts planned to harm Waites and her friends, but the friends left to purchase makeup, and the victim was there alone.
“It was never a plan to continue a party,” he said. “We believe it was a plan to kidnap these young girls, and only one went in, and one has never been seen again.”
Before his capture, police also warned young women to be careful of meeting people on dating apps and said Potts seemed to have a pattern of meeting women on dating apps and social media.
Waites, 21, was from New Mexico and had moved to Houston to attend Prairie View A&M University, an HBCU.
