A 42-year-old cemetery worker was killed in a freak accident, according to a statement from the Suffolk County Police Department.
Rodwin Allicock died Thursday morning around 8:30 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai, a small suburb on Long Island.
Allicock was smoothing the bottom of a grave when it collapsed on top of him. The tomb was estimated to be over seven feet deep, according to police.
The man’s coworkers attempted to dig him, but they could not save him.

Emergency workers, including Suffolk County public works employees and emergency workers, and Middle Island, Selden, Hagerman, and Setauket Fire Departments, responded to the call to assist Allicock.
A physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Center pronounced him dead at the scene.
An investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is underway after the organization received news of the tragic accident.
