Clark Atlanta University (CAU) had a dormitory debacle that affected 460 students on move-in day.
Fox 5 reported that over a hundred families were stuffed into an auditorium waiting for university officials to indicate where they should go on that day. Parents said they wished they had known of the renovation delays beforehand.
The university had construction renovation projects in the dorms that prevented the new students from getting comfy in their new homes.
The HBCU’s president, George French Jr., issued a statement regarding the incident, “Move-in week is a special time for students and their families at any university, and it is our responsibility here at Clark Atlanta University to ensure we are ready to receive our scholars during that time. It is also our job to ensure our scholars and parents have an enjoyable experience and are excited to begin and continue their academic journey.”
“While most of our dorm rooms are ready for freshmen and upper-class students to move in, we sincerely apologize that renovations to one of our main dorms, Heritage Commons, have run behind schedule.”
“Right now, we are speaking with students and families to listen to their concerns and to let them know we understand. We are working diligently to resolve this issue and are offering temporary housing and transportation solutions until the renovations are complete.”
“At Clark Atlanta University, our students come first. We will stay in touch with all affected students and families, provide updates to ensure we take care of them and get this unfortunate challenge resolved as soon as possible.”
The statement ends with the administrator asking for patience from the student body and their families while the school works diligently to fix the issue.

The school offered remedies for the inconvenience, including giving students a 50% discount for the current semester or a refund for the entire room fee. Off-campus housing, hotel accommodations, and parking arrangements for students and their families within 15 minutes of the campus were also arranged. CAU officials are being housed at different locations to aid the students and families affected. The school also covered costs of transportation to and from the school with parking and shuttle services.
The university hasn’t provided a date for the completion of the renovation project.
