New Orleans-based entrepreneur Angelle Mosley died from complications related to COVID-19 even though she was completely vaccinated.

CBS News reported that Mosley, a boutique owner, died on July 25 after a battle with COVID-19 and pneumonia. She was 33 years old and was fully vaccinated, which made her a “breakthrough” case.

Her mother, Tara Mosley, claims her daughter took the virus very seriously. She also encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and wear masks, despite her daughter’s fate.

“One of the things that I will say contributed to her death, Angelle was large for her age. She was obese. The variant that is out right now. It is showing us it is really serious. I saw this with my own child’s life,” Tara told WDSU.

Angelle was a newly established business owner who opened Brave Beautique, specializing in apparel for plus-sized women. Tara told CBS she plans to keep the boutique going because it was her daughter’s “baby.”

“It was her dream,” the grieving mother told the news outlet. “I know she really wanted the people to know to actually get to be vaccinated, to still mask up. You know, it is very imperative that we still mask up.”

According to CNN, the Centers for Disease Control reports breakthrough cases are rare and only account for 1 percent of all COVID-19 cases. Less than one percent of breakthrough patients die from the disease. Pre-existing conditions like obesity, heart disease and asthma, make people more susceptible to severe symptoms.

Louisiana, where Angelle lived, is being hit hard by the virus, according to NOLA.com. The state health department reported 3,012 hospitalizations and 98 deaths as of Tuesday. Last week, Louisiana had the highest daily average rate of deaths per capita in the country. About 46.9 percent of Louisiana’s population has received at least one COVID-19 vaccination. Only 38.7 percent of residents have completed a full round.
