Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin has filed a lawsuit against the woman who accused him of misconduct in a Mariott hotel lobby.
According to TMZ, on February 9, Irvin was yanked from major network coverages of the NFL’s 2023 Super Bowl LVII because of the accusation of an altercation with a woman surfacing earlier this week.
The lawsuit accused the Arizona hotel of trying “to turn him[Irvin] into the next victim of ‘cancel culture’ over something he says never happened.”
The document continued, “Rash and thoughtless actions can have severe consequences. Marriott did not appreciate these simple truths when, in a rush to judgment, its employees and management inaccurately and inflammatorily accused Mr. Irvin of misconduct to the National Football League.”
Irvin’s lawsuit is demanding $100 million. The former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver’s attorney explained the high dollar amount to be a result of the fact that “his client’s reputation has not only been damaged but he’s also lost out on money—canceled appearances—as a result of the false allegations.”
“It is clear Michael is the latest victim of our cancel culture where all it takes is an accusation to ruin a person’s life,” The attorney told the outlet. “Michael looks forward to clearing his name in court and hopes the Court of public opinion will see the truth come out as well.”
The lawsuit brought up witnesses who confirmed that the unidentified woman and Irvin “casually exchanged pleasantries” before they parted ways, opposing the allegations sent to the NFL of an “incident” occurring between them in the lobby. Although the specific details of the allegations are yet to be released, the lawsuit accused all parties of refusing to listen to Irvin’s witnesses “with the intention of damaging that relationship [with the NFL] and canceling Irvin.”
