The family of slain the Black woman killed during a Mexico trip with friends, Shanquella Robinson, honored her on what would’ve been her 26th birthday.
According to WFAE, Robinson’s relatives celebrated her birthday at the Beatties Ford Memorial Garden in Charlotte, North Carolina on Jan. 9—her birthday was on Jan. 8. That day, the family released pink, white and yellow balloons in Robinson’s name. The event was organized by Mario Black with Million Youth March Of Charlotte & Salisbury, who have been demanding justice for her.
“Our hope is justice,” Black told WFAE, explaining that he wanted to make sure Robinson’s death was avenged. “And this is one way of keeping it going, keeping it alive, to let them know that we haven’t forgotten. We’re not going to let up until justice is served.”
As News Onyx reported, in November, the victim visited Mexico with six supposed friends to celebrate a birthday. Less than 24 hours after they arrived, a viral video recorded by an individual in the group revealed a naked Robinson being brutally beaten by another woman in the villa. Her so-called friends reportedly condoned the fight.
A man who appeared to film the tragic incident was heard questioning the innocent woman, asking her “’Quella, can you at least fight back?”
Sadly, the slain woman was declared dead after the concierge at Villa Linda 32, the property where she was savagely attacked, contacted a doctor who tried to revive her.
On Nov. 20, News Onyx reported that NBA star Kyrie Irving donated a whopping $65,000 to Robinson’s family. Kyrie donated the generous amount to them via GoFundMe in two payments: one for $50,000 and another for $15,000.
“My beautiful sister Shanquella Robinson recently went on a trip to Cabo, Mexico, with people she believed were her friends,” the young woman’s sister, Quilla Long, shared that the family needed funds to cover funeral expenses and legal fees.
“During this trip, she was found dead. Her associates claimed she died of alcohol poisoning. Still, the death certificate from the Mexican government contradicts this statement as it reveals a broken neck and cracked spine and a time of death 15 minutes after she sustained these injuries,” Long added.
