John Armstrong, a Tulsa, Oklahoma man, was arrested on November 26 at around 6:30 PM after a family member called for help.

Allegedly Armstrong turned violent and pulled out a gun on two of his family members after a game of Monopoly got heated. During what was described as a drunken game night at home near 4th Place and 91st East Avenue, a caller contacted police to say that John Armstrong chased her and her father down the street and shot at them.

According to Newsweek, Tulsa Police Department Officer Danny Bean explained, “The entire family had been drinking, and they were playing Monopoly. An argument broke out during this during this game-playing and drinking between our suspect and the stepfather and stepsibling.”

The game board was knocked over during the argument, and the furniture was trashed. Eventually, the fight was moved to outside the house.

Armstrong was cut on the head. In his anger, he chased his stepfather and stepsister with a gun. He admitted that he shot at the ground while they attempted to get away. He maintained that he wasn’t trying to hit them with his gunfire.

Beans speculated that was actually the case and that John was likely trying to intimidate his family, “Maybe he would make them think he was more capable of doing something else just by firing one round off,” He said, “I’m sure it was some sort of act of intimidation.”

When officers arrived on the scene, they were met with the sight of the ransacked living room and the shooter still on the scene, but without the gun, he was reported to have. Law enforcement believed that he hid the handgun before they arrived, but he eventually surrendered. In Tulsa county, John Armstrong was taken into custody and held for assault with a deadly weapon.
