Las Vegas Burger King employee Kevin Ford’s cup is running over with blessings after never missing a day of work in 27 years. He went viral for what social media users thought was a measly show of appreciation for his dedication.
Kevin appeared on The TODAY Show on Tuesday to discuss the latest updates in his life since his viral moment. He shared his experience with hosts Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie, saying, “It’s like a dream come true. It’s overwhelming, especially the support I’m receiving every day. It’s awesome.”
The 54-year-old father and grandfather’s humility touched the nation as he continued, “I’m grateful for everything, for every day I wake up, that I can go to work, that I could be a good citizen, be a good American and just do my part.”
His dedication continued to pay off when TODAY Show producers added to the Burger King employee’s bounty of blessings by reuniting Kevin with his daughter Seryna and his three grandkids. They live in Texas. The tear-jerking moment had been a long time coming– he hadn’t seen them in four years.
The family embraced the patriarch, and Seryna spoke about how much she appreciated the love her father had received.
“It means a lot to us. My dad deserves the world … he made me the person that I am.”
The doting daughter also said she didn’t expect the monetary windfall when setting her $200 GoFundMe goal for Kevin. Now, Seryna and the Las Vegas man have raised over $300,000.
To date, actor and comedian David Spade has donated one of the highest dollar amounts of $5,000.
“It’s just a whirlwind of love,” he said. “We need it. Every day, we need it.”
America’s generosity to Kevin is proof that sometimes people recognize hard work when you least expect it.
