A North Carolina man has been charged in the shooting murder of a motorcyclist in what investigators say was a road rage incident, police said.

Stephen Addison, 32, was fatally shot after the roadside dispute, Fayetteville police say.

In a news release, the Fayetteville Police Department said that Roger Dale Nobles, 51, was arrested at his home and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail without bond.

According to WRAL, the arrest warrant revealed that Nobles was driving his truck when he and his son got into a conflict with Addison at an intersection. The son got out of the vehicle to confront Addison, and the elder Nobles fired a gun from the driver’s seat.

Addison was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds. Nobles admitted to the shooting, but it isn’t clear why he shot the driver.

Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West said he was investigating the shooting of Addison, a Black man.

Friends said Addison was a father to three children and had a “great, loving soul.”

“[He was] a loving, caring guy for anybody. He stayed out the way [and] was never in anybody’s business,” said Justin Cockrell, a friend of Addison’s.

Cockrell described Addison as well-known and loved in the Fayetteville community.

“There won’t be one bad word spoken about Stephen,” he expressed.

Cockrell said that he felt that he’d lost his friend “for nothing.”

“It’s just senseless. It’s 2022, and we’re still talking about road rage. I mean, come on. I lost my brother, for what? He has three kids … he’s a veteran and served in the military,” he added.

We’re keeping Addison’s family in our hearts and prayers.
