10-Year-Old Wisconsin Boy Charged After Fatally Shooting Mother Over Refusal To Purchase Him VR Headset

A 10-year-old Wisconsin boy has been arrested after fatally shooting

his mother, Quiana Mann, over her refusal to purchase him a VR headset.

According to NBC News, the unnamed boy–his name is currently being protected due to his age–allegedly shot Quiana in the eye after telling him that she wouldn’t buy the headset. The police report stated that the mother of four was reportedly shot at close range as a bullet entered her right eye and exited the back of her head through her skull.

The boy was reportedly upset about Quiana not buying him the VR headset from Amazon– news was delivered to him after his mom woke him up at 6 a.m. He allegedly grabbed the keys to her gun safe early that morning and headed to the basement, where she was doing laundry, the report said. As he twirled the weapon around his finger, it “accidentally went off,” the complaint indicated he initially said. However, it revealed that during later police interviews, the boy admitted to his aunt he didn’t twirl the gun around and that he did shoot his mom.

After allegedly shooting his mother, he went to the second-story bedroom of their home and woke his 26-year-old sister up. The unidentified woman discovered their mother’s lifeless body. She then called 911 for help.

A day after the fatal shooting, the unnamed boy allegedly logged into his Quiana’s Amazon account and bought an Oculus Virtual Reality Headset. The criminal complaint said that he even checked in with his grandmother, Lueritha Mann, to see if the package had arrived.

The 10-year-old has since been charged as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide and has a $50,000 bail. His family claimed he dealt with mental health problems as a child, had anger issues, and displayed dangerous behaviors.

“We tried helping her with him. All of us, everybody that knows her, even her church people. We all tried helping her with him because we knew he had a mental illness,” Lueritha said.

On Nov. 28, one of Quiana’s relatives, Rhonda Reid, launched a GoFundMe to assist the family with funeral expenses. The slain woman reportedly worked in behavioral health and left four children behind.

If convicted, her 10-year-old son could face up to 60 years in prison.
