A Georgia Pastor’s Wife Dies After A Stray Bullet Entered Their Home, Police Are Ruling The Occurrence A Homicide

A pastor’s wife in Georgia died Monday after getting shot in the head by a stray bullet while sleeping days before.

Pastor Mac Ellison of Temple of Faith Ministries announced the death of his wife, LaShunda Heath-Ellison, in a Facebook post.

“Today, October 10, 2022, my wife LaShunda Heath-Ellison gained her wings,” he disclosed in the post. “I believe to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Please give us a moment to process this. My Perfect Angel is gone but forever in our hearts.”

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the incident happened shortly after midnight on the 2300 block of Wilkins Court in Decatur, GA. Per a Facebook Live video from Ellison, gunshots weren’t heard. The only thing that indicated trouble was his wife’s heavy breathing. Initially, the Georgia pastor thought his wife was snoring until he turned on the lights and realized something was wrong.

He stated he called out her name and then called for his kids. His daughter, Taylor, suggested they roll her over to improve her breathing.

“When we rolled mama over so she could breathe, we saw that the back of her pillow was full of blood, but looking at her, we didn’t see any blood,” Ellison said in the video. “There was nothing we could do for mama.”

After calling 911, Heath-Ellison was transported to the hospital, where medical personnel did an x-ray, which revealed the bullet in her head. Once the family returned to the house, they discovered a bullet hole in the back of the house and the bed’s headboard.

DeKalb Police ruled the incident a homicide, stating a “projectile entered the back of her home, striking her in the head.”

Investigators encouraged anyone near the incident and heard or saw anything to call their Homicide Unit at 770-724-7850.

Ellison said that they had celebrated her 50th birthday before she died.
