Ambulance Driver Arrested & Charged With DUI Following Vehicle Crash That Killed Patient

Kevin McCorvey, a reported driver for a private ambulance business in Georgia, was arrested and charged with a DUI after police responded to a wreck over the weekend, later discovering that an ambulance had turned over in a ditch and that Wilton Thomason Jr., a 66-year-old patient riding in the vehicle, had died, WSB-TV reported.

The 34-year-old reportedly took a sobriety test following the crash on Friday night, Nov. 12, according to WSB-TV.

Jail records show that McCorvey was later charged with a DUI for “driving under the influence of multiple substances,” along with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, possession of an open alcohol container, homicide by vehicle in the first degree and other offenses related to the wreck.

c, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Thomason was reportedly found dead at the scene, with state troopers believing the crash to be caused by McCorvey hitting a shoulder on the road.

Thomason, who was riding in the ambulance as a “non-emergency patient,” was also allegedly “not restrained” when the vehicle crashed into a ditch, WSB-TV reported.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, McCorvey attended a court hearing on Saturday morning where he was denied bond and escorted back to jail.

There is no word on when McCorvey is expected to return to court and face his laundry list of charges.
