The Baltimore Police Department announced the arrest of one of the Morgan State University mass shooters Friday morning, Oct. 13.
According to BPD’s press release, detectives arrested an unnamed 17-year-old man in Washington, D.C., as a co-defendant in the mass shooting on MSU’s campus on Oct. 2.
Investigators in the Northeast District collaborated with the Washington D.C. Metro police and Federal law agencies to investigate the incident and, ultimately, catch the perpetrators. A surveillance video led those working on the case to identify and locate the shooters.
Police took the 17-year-old into custody on Oct. 12 without incident and will transport him to the Central Booking Intake Facility. He’s looking at multiple counts of attempted murder charges.
Police issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jovan Williams, who reportedly was connected to the shooting. The U.S. Marshals Service offered up to $10,000 for any information leading to Williams’ arrest. Metro Crime Stoppers and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offered up to $9,000 for tips leading to Williams getting charged and arrested.
Prior to Williams’ involvement in the MSU shooting, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued an arrest warrant for the 18-year-old on June 15 after getting charged in a drug and conspiracy case.
Police state Williams is considered armed and dangerous.
“BPD has been working tirelessly on the investigation into this incident and are grateful for the many partners that assisted us in identifying and capturing one of our suspects,” Commissioner Richard Worley stated. “We will not rest until Williams is in custody that day. It is my hope that it can bring some peace and justice to the victims, the Morgan community and our city.”

According to MSU, campus police responded to reports about gunshots heard on campus near the Thurgood Marshall Residence Hall and the Murphy Fine Arts Center on Oct. 3 around 9:27 p.m.
MSU students received emergency alerts around 9:30 p.m. through text, email and social media. They were updated every hour.
Five people — four men and one woman— received non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting and were transported to nearby hospitals. Four of the injured were MSU students between the ages of 18 and 22.
