Black Couple Graduated From Medical School And Got Married In the Same Week

Drs. Johnson and Johnson had a lot to celebrate on the week of May 15. The couple got married and graduated from medical school. Dwight Johnson II and Taylor Brooks said “I do” at their wedding in Tomball, Texas, making them Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. Six days later, the two graduated from Meharry Medical College, an HBCU in Nashville, crowning them Drs. Johnson and Johnson.

“When you get married and graduate [med school] the same week,” Johnson II wrote on Twitter.

Taylor graduated as a psychiatry physician while Dwight earned his doctor of medicine degree in obstetrics and gynecology.

According to their wedding registry, the couple met through a mutual friend who invited him to a girls’ night out. Dwight was immediately drawn to Taylor’s beauty, and kindness, and the two instantly became friends. But the handsome graduate wanted something more.

Each day after school, he would take a specific stairwell in the library near the area Taylor studied to greet her. Due to their busy med school schedules, the couple didn’t have time to meet outside school until the semester’s end drew near. Dwight gathered up all of his courage to ask her out to lunch, and, from there, the two hung out by eating, playing pool and performing an impromptu duet at Guitar Center.

After their first official date, he decided to take their friendship to the next level. Taking a page from Love and Basketball

, Dwight used a ping pong ball to ask her to the Cadaver Ball (Medical School Prom), where he also asked her to be his girlfriend.

Taylor’s residency takes place at the University of Maryland, and Dwight’s will take place at Howard University College of Medicine.
