Black Los Angeles Couple Goes Viral For Their $500 Wedding And Making Guests Pay To Attend

Black Los Angeles, Calif. couple, Kiara and Joel Brokenbrough, has gone viral on social media for their beautiful $500 wedding.

“When you have a wedding and reception for under $500,” Kiara wrote for her TikTok video with over 119K views, showing off the gorgeous ceremony’s setting on Mar. 10.

“We planned this in less than two months. Watch my YouTube video to find out how we pulled this off.”

Her channel, titled KIARA BRK, was updated with three vlogs about the journey to her wedding, from her now-husband’s proposal to the actual event.

On Mar. 18, Kiara also shared a clip, which has reached nearly 1M views, of her trying on a $47 gown from uber-popular online retailer SHEIN. SHEIN has become well-known for its wholesale-priced goods, including clothing, accessories, and home decor.

“Our goal was to just be as minimal as possible and to spend the least amount of money as possible,” she told Good Morning America. “I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a dress because I had the mindset [that] I’m [going to] wear [it] one time for a few hours.”

Her wedding location was reportedly free as well, as it took place off one of California’s freeways. Her family and friends gifted her items such as flowers and a runner to assist with her budget ceremony.

In addition, guests paid for their own food and drinks at the reception.

“You have a wedding, with witnesses there to witness you, vowing to your spouse, vowing to God that you guys are going to stay together for life. And then you celebrate with food, drinks, and dance. And that’s exactly what we did. The people we have there, they understood the assignment, they understood the things that we were trying to do, and they really supported us.”

Drone footage of the Brokenboroughs wedding can be seen via Kiara’s Instagram page.

“With mixed emotions, I present to you our wedding video! Our immediate families & family-friends joined us to witness this union as my mom & her husband officiated,” she wrote on Mar. 3.
