Briea Askew Charged with Murder For Leaving Woman in Cerebral Palsy in Hot Car for Five Hours

North Carolina caretaker Briea Askew is facing murder charges for the death of a 21-year-old woman in her care.

The unidentified victim, who had cerebral palsy, died on August 10 after she was left

unattended in a car for five hours, according to a press release from the High Point Police Department. The car did not have air conditioning even though temperatures surpassed 90 degrees that day.

When the woman arrived at a local hospital, she had an “extremely elevated temperature of over 110 degrees,” per the police. The death was blamed on excessive heat and humidity.

It is unclear where Askew was while the victim was trapped in the vehicle. She was charged with second-degree murder on Monday. Askew is in the Guilford County Jail under a $200,000 bond.

It’s not clear if Askew has attorney representation or if she’s pleaded guilty or not guilty to the charges.
