Brittney Griner Appears In Public At The Waste Management Phoenix Open Golf Tournament

WNBA star Brittney Griner made her second public appearance Saturday at the Waste Management (WM) Phoenix Open golf tournament since she returned to America after being held in a Russian prison.

Rocking a white collared shirt, black pants, black shades and a smile, Brittney and her wife, Cherelle Griner, stood in the crowd, watching the tournament from the 16th hole, according to NBC News.

Pro Golf Stuff reported that Brittney was overheard voicing almost everyone’s thoughts about golf. “Golf is boring as hell,” the WNBA player said, adding, “The WNBA is far more exciting than this s**t.”

Brittney’s first outing happened at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday, Jan. 16. Last month, the Phoenix Mercury player was released from a Russian prison due to a prisoner swap deal in which Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout was traded in exchange for the women’s basketball star.

After returning, Brittney took to Instagram to thank those who had a hand in ensuring she returned home. She then vowed to use her platform to raise awareness of the Americans detained in Russia, like Paul Whelan, in hopes of bringing them home. In regards to her returning to her career, Brittney said she’s planning on it.

“I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon,” the post concluded.
