A 22-year-old female’s body was found dismembered and stuffed in two suitcases inside of her apartment in Brooklyn, New York, last month. Police brought her ex-boyfriend into custody for questioning during the weekend.
Dasia Johnson’s remains were found in suitcases inside her apartment on Sept. 21 after her neighbors complained about a foul odor coming from her apartment. The Daily News reported that police discovered a meat cleaver near the crime scene.
In addition to detaining the ex-boyfriend, the police released photos of six suspects, reportedly seen in Johnson’s apartment after the murder, from a surveillance camera, according to PEOPLE. The suspects are five females and one male who haven’t been named nor arrested.
Before Johnson’s murder, she filed a restraining order against the ex-boyfriend, forbidding him from entering her apartment. Johnson’s relatives are infuriated with the apartment’s security for not doing their job and protecting Johnson from outsiders. After asking security to check on the 22-year-old after failed attempts to get in contact with her, security turned them away.
NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig stated that security guards did go to the apartment to do a wellness check, but the former boyfriend denied their entry into the apartment. When they did enter, they saw “blood all over the place.”
According to a neighbor of Johnson, the crime scene was horrendous and looked like something out of a movie.
“Not something you see in real life,” Stephanie Harris explained to the Daily News. “Blood everywhere. It was nasty. You could imagine what happened to her. She fought for her life cause there was blood splattered.”
“He always said, ‘The only way you get out is when your mother’s gonna bury you, b***h,'” Harris recalled.
The investigation is ongoing, but those with any information should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
