Charletta Green Dies of COVID-19 and Husband Dies Hours Later of Heartbreak

Charletta Green, a Detroit, Michigan native, died of COVID-19 while visiting Florida on vacation and her husband Troy passed away of a heart attack a few hours after hearing the news of her passing.

Troy and Charletta had been diagnosed

with COVID-19 a month ago, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

They planned a trip to Florida in hopes of an anniversary vacation, but Troy’s condition was worse than his wife’s, and Charletta ended up leaving without him.

Charletta was admitted to a hospital in Florida two days after her arrival, and her health took a turn for the worst. Troy was admitted the following day to a hospital in Detroit.

The couple spent their anniversary on ventilators, and after struggling on life support, Charletta died on September 6.

After hearing the tragic news of his wife’s passing, Troy suffered from a heart attack and died.

Tiki Green, Troy’s sister, told the outlet that there wasn’t much to be done for Charletta.

“Her lungs were severely damaged, and … they just couldn’t do any more for her,” Tiki said. “When he realized that his wife, you know, maybe not getting better, after he hears she’s on a ventilator and she’s on it 100 percent constantly, he just basically couldn’t take that. He just started having chest pains, and eventually, a couple of hours later, he passed.”

Tiki said that the couple was very close, having been together and sharing seven children for most of their lives.

“They met when they were 14 years old, got married, been married 22 years, and had seven beautiful children,” said Tiki.

Tiki confirmed that the couple wasn’t vaccinated against the virus.

“I mean, I know it doesn’t prevent you from contracting it in general, but I feel like you’ll have a fighting chance at least,” she said. “So I’m like stressing to everybody in my family, (they have to) be vaccinated because I can’t do this again. COVID is taking too many people.”

The couple’s family members created a GoFundMe where they have raised over $25,000 to fund a double burial and funeral service for Troy and Charletta.
