Ne’vaeh Brown, a victim of gun violence that had nothing to do with her, is blind in one eye her mother said after being shot at a dance studio in Athens, Ga.
On April 26, Brown was being dropped off by her mother, Brittanie Wright, at a studio in a former strip mall along North Avenue when two men argued outside, one of them allegedly 38-year-old Rasheed Scott of Atlanta.
At about 5 p.m., Brown and a 14-year-old girl, who was hit
in the arm, were inside the studio in the parking lot when bullets flew through the windows, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.The 5-year-old dance victim survived and underwent multiple surgeries on May 4, but her eye could not be saved. It will be removed and replaced with a prosthetic eye, Wright wrote in a GoFundMe campaign.
The GoFundMe fundraiser is intended to cover medical expenses, including long-term treatments, therapy and the actual purchase of a prosthetic eye, Wright said.
Brown will have to wait two months to be fitted with the prosthetic.
“This is very hard for my whole family but we have to be strong for her,” Wright said. “Please keep praying for us as we go through this journey as it is new to us.”
The alleged shooter, Scott, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
“Y’all outside arguing over what? Something that could’ve been resolved,” Wright said, who spoke with Atlanta Channel 2. “You could’ve walked away or anything, but y’all decided to pull out the guns, something that’s deadly. And the fact that you didn’t even hit the other person that you’re arguing with and y’all hit two innocent kids. The fact that now she has to live with one eye and not being able to see … is crazy. She’s going to be traumatized from this all her life.”
