Drekarion Williams, 14, Could Be Paralyzed Below The Waist Following Possible Mistaken Identity Shooting

A young teenager from Racine, Wisconsin was riding his scooter on the way to a relative’s home when he was struck with two bullets, one hitting his neck. Though Drekarion Williams survived the nearly fatal shooting incident, the 14-year-old could be left paralyzed

below the waist and unable to walk again.

The shooting occurred on Sunday morning, May 16 while Williams was accompanying his cousin to their aunt’s house. According to Fox 6, an SUV

pulled up alongside them and began firing, striking Williams in his neck and stomach.

As Racine police grapple for a reason behind the senseless shooting, William’s family believes that it was an unfortunate case of mistaken identity. According to the Journal Times, the teen’s father, Scott Williams, said about the shooting “I believe it was just mistaken identity, or — I don’t know, I don’t know what people are doing nowadays.”

Williams also claimed that his son was never into any kind of street activity, adding “He ain’t into that…A good kid, never been to trouble. He just wants to be a kid.”

According to the Journal Times, Williams was flown to a local Wisconsin children’s hospital where he underwent surgery to remove a part of his intestine. Doctors informed his family that he may be paralyzed from the waist down, as he wasn’t able to feel his legs.

His father is offering an $8,000 reward for anyone who can provide information on a suspect. A GoFundMe page has also been set up for the family to help cover medical costs and other expenses. So far, the page has received over $9k of its $10K goal.

Referring to Williams lovingly as “Bob,” the GoFundMe page offered an update yesterday stating, “Bob’s fever has also gone down some so we are hopeful that the infection is being controlled and contained. Bob’s parents were informed that Bob will likely have to go to a rehab facility for a couple of months in Madison, WI.,”

“We just ask that you continue to send your prayers for full healing to Bob! We believe this to be true and need all the positive energy and prayers to make this happen.”
