The family of Larry Walker, a 63-year-old Black man who was dragged and killed

by a carjacker during an Inglewood chase, said they want LAPD held accountable.

According to KTLA, Larry’s family has called

on the California Attorney General’s Office to launch an independent investigation into his death. They also said that the Los Angeles Police Department should be held responsible for the tragic incident.

“I do hold the man that killed my father responsible, but the operation and the way they attempted to apprehend that man was negligent,” the victim’s daughter, Jamien Walker, said about the Inglewood chase.

A murder suspect, identified as 31-year-old Joshua Reneau, allegedly killed Larry during the police chase on Oct. 13. Joshua reportedly carjacked Larry’s SUV, and the victim got stuck because he couldn’t loosen his seatbelt. Sadly, the criminal pushed Larry out of the SUV’s door, which caused him to get trapped beneath it. Joshua then drove off as detectives, who were in the middle of pursuing the suspect, continued chasing him while Larry’s body was dragged for miles underneath his car. The disturbing occurrence caused the California man’s death.

“At some point, you should have called that chase off,” said Larry’s sister-in-law, Hope Davis. “You should’ve called it off.”

Officials said Joshua hit several patrol cars before causing the SUV to flip over near East Florence Avenue and North Prairie Avenue, near Edward Vincent Jr. Park. When LAPD finally caught up to the suspect, police arrested the 31-year-old for charges involving Larry’s death and another charge. He’s since remained in custody and is facing several charges, including murder. However, that’s not enough for his loved ones.

“My dad was such a great man,” Jamien said during a memorial honoring her father. “He gave back to his community. He loved his family.” The memorial was reportedly held in downtown Los Angeles, where Larry’s friends and family gathered to release balloons in his memory.
