Airbnb is facing a lawsuit after a family claimed that their baby died from fentanyl poisoning while staying in a rental property in Florida.
A family is suing Airbnb, the property owners, and the previous renter after their 19-month-old daughter died from accidental fentanyl poisoning while on vacation in Wellington, near West Palm Beach.
Lydie and Boris Lavenir found their daughter, Enora, in her bed just hours after their arrival. The family’s wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the rental company and vacation homeowner failed to ensure the safety of the property and claims that the prior renter was negligent in allowing drugs to be used at the property and leaving behind drugs or drug residue.

Attorney Thomas Scolaro, representing the family, believes that the property was not properly cleaned after a drug-fueled party held by the previous renters and that fentanyl residue was left behind. He stated that the family did not know that their baby died from fentanyl poisoning until the autopsy showed a fatal dose of the drug and urged people to take extra measures when renting vacation homes.
“That’s part of the message that the family really wants to get out. … You don’t know who was there before you. You don’t know what they were doing there before you. So wipe down the surfaces, take that extra step, those extra measures, because you don’t want to find yourself in the situation that they have,” Scolaro said
.An Airbnb spokesperson expressed condolences for the family, saying, “Our hearts go out to the Lavenir family and their loved ones for this devastating loss.”
The case is ongoing, and the Lavenir family is seeking justice for their daughter’s tragic and untimely death.
