Leonard Robinson, 22, of Lowell, Mass., appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged for murdering a young Boston mother on Thanksgiving day. He is being held without bail.
According to CBS Boston, Robinson and Dejah Jenkins-Minus, 22, had an on-again, off-again relationship. She recently became a mother to a 2-month-old daughter.
On Friday, November 26, police went to the Lowell home to conduct a wellness check on Jenkins-Minus and her daughter.
When authorities arrived, they discovered Jenkins-Minus, who suffered from a fractured neck and more than 58 stab wounds. The baby was not hurt, CBS Boston reported.
“Dejah was found in the house that he was living in alone, in his bedroom, which was locked when any witness or the police came to that location,” a prosecutor said in court.
“Further investigation revealed that there had been social media posts by the defendant, questioning whether he was the father of the child, questioning whether he should have a DNA test, and also stating also stating that he was mad a Dejah and I would suggest providing motive,” the prosecutor continued.
EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the young mother dead. The county medical examiner ruled her death a homicide by multiple blunt force injuries.
Officers later executed a search warrant at the Llewelyn Street residence and retrieved multiple items, including a knife that appears consistent with the weapon used in the killing, The Boston Herald reported.
LaToya Minus, Dejah’s mother, told WBZ-TV that her daughter was a “very uplifting young lady over the weekend.”
“I’m lost, I’m hurt, I’m numb. I’m angry, and I want justice for my baby and my grandbaby,” she said.
Jenkins-Minus’ mother made the call to the police for the well-being check.
The case is an ongoing investigation with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police Detectives.
A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for December 30.
