A night on the town turned into tragedy in downtown Miami over the weekend after a woman shot another woman inside of an Uber. The shooter was arrested on Tuesday.
According to the Miami Herald, 24-year-old Natalia Harrell, from Coconut Grove, reportedly shot 28-year-old Gloria Yvette Borcela inside of a packed Uber at roughly 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The shooting allegedly happened after the two women had been hanging out at the Clevelander Hotel and Bar. Harrell, Borcela and an unidentified woman met four men inside The Urban– located inside the hotel, when the guys asked the ladies to continue the party somewhere else. The women agreed, and they called an Uber. The ride-share vehicle arrived, and the group, who had been drinking, also entered the car. Miami detectives told the Herald that an argument ensued after Harrell thought Borcela was partying a little too much. A physical altercation between the woman occurred, with Harrell issuing the deceased woman a warning, saying, “You don’t want this. You don’t want me to go in my purse.”
The drama escalated, and Harrell pulled out a firearm, shooting Borcela inside the Uber. The driver stopped the car, and the horrified passengers escaped from the car. The 28-year-old mother of three was declared dead at a local hospital from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Harrell was arrested on Tuesday and was charged with second-degree murder. An investigation by the Miami Police Department determined that the men fled the scene but were tracked down and taken in for questioning. The unidentified woman also gave an eyewitness account of the tragic event.
Harrell’s next court date hasn’t been disclosed.
A GoFundMe for Borcela was set up by her grieving mother, Yvette Rivera, earlier this week.
“This is the most devastating news a mother can receive. My daughter life was taken away from her, and she did not deserve this. She was the life of the party and a beautiful soul to be around. She always held her hand out for anyone that needed her, even when she had battles of her own. She put her 3 beautiful children first, and now they have to grow up and only hear of memories of their beautiful mother,” she wrote.
“I don’t even know how to tell my [grandbabies] someone took their mother away from us. Our family is heartbroken, and we need help for the funeral arrangements and a little more help with providing for her children. This is a wave that we weren’t prepared for. Please, anything is appreciated.”
Of the $15,000 ask, Borcela’s family has raised slightly over $5,000.
