A Michigan teen was arrested in connection with fatally stabbing her grandmother, Cynthia Mosby, in Canton Township last Monday.
According to Hometown Life, a hearing to determine if the 14-year-old girl is competent to stand trial will take place on April 15. That decision will establish if the teen will be arraigned on first and second-degree murder charges.
Hometown Life reported that Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy released a statement regarding the tragic incident.
According to the district attorney, police were called to the 65-year-old woman’s home in Canton Township on Feb.22. When officers arrived, the girl’s father discovered his injured mother, but police confirmed the grandmother was found dead and lying facedown on the floor of a bedroom.

Mosby had been stabbed numerous times with a kitchen knife. She had custody of the 14-year-old girl at the time of her death.
The suspect was not on the scene and was later discovered at a hotel in Southgate, a city roughly 25 miles northwest of Canton Township.
The news outlet disclosed that the teen would be tried as a juvenile. Still, her sentencing could be a blended version of an adult and juvenile-type punishment or “adult-designated” consideration– due to the nature of the crime.
Worthy expressed that the stabbing was “very sad and disturbing.”
“Ms. Mosby was a nurse who was raising her granddaughter,” Worthy said. “Our prayers go out to her son and family.”
Canton Police Services Director Chad Baugh told the publication that detectives worked diligently to determine why Mosby was killed.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Cynthia Mosby’s family,” he said. “Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s analysis and charging decisions were invaluable following this challenging set of facts.”
Mosby’s 14-year-old granddaughter is being detained at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility in Detroit.
