Mississippi mother, Tiffany Carter, has been overcome with grief while waiting for the crime lab report on her missing son, Rasheem Ryelle Carter.
According to the Jackson Advocate, Rasheem’s remains were brought to the Mississippi Crime Lab, where it’s currently under the authority of the State Medical Examiner. The 25-year-old’s mangled body was reportedly found at a deer park south of Taylorsville in Smith County near Highway 37 on Nov. 2.
Raheem initially went missing in Taylorsville just two days after he allegedly feared for his life. He reportedly last communicated with his mother on Oct. 1 and 2., as he was attempting to get a ride from work to Motel 8 in Laurel. At the time, he had worked nine hours at the Georgia Pacific plant and needed assistance getting back to the motel where he was living temporarily.
Tiffany followed her son’s orders and called her best friend to pick him up that day, but when they arrived, he was nowhere to be found.
The young man typically rode with a co-worker, but during this first weekend in October, the co-worker wouldn’t allow him to do so anymore. Raheem disappeared the following day and left no signs behind other than dispensing $500 from his debit card on Oct. 4. A police report indicated that he went to the Taylorsville Police Station on both Oct. 1 and 2 to tell officers about his concerns. It also said that he told Tiffany via phone that he had seen “three trucks full of white men after him.”
“He told them that someone was trying to harm him, and I heard him when he said that, but they told me that he never said someone was trying to harm him,” the distressed mother said
. “Little did they know I was on the phone when he said it. He told me on the phone personally that it was three white trucks full of white men.”She also said that Raheem told her, “Mama, I’m smart. I’m not crazy.”
His aunt, Felicia Kaho, added that he asked the police for a ride back to his hotel, but the officers refused.
“He waited nervously in the police station, pacing back and forth, and asked the officers for a ride back to Laurel, where his hotel was,” Felicia said.
A month later, Smith County Sheriff Joel Houston contacted Tiffany and asked if she could identify a figure captured on a hunter’s video on Nov. 1. The video was reportedly captured in a wooded area south of Taylorsville. Sadly, she confirmed that the man in the footage looked like her now-deceased son.
“We continued to search the area and found what we believe to be the remains of Rasheem Carter,” Sheriff Houston said. “We were also able to find some identifying factors and property that we know is his.”
The FBI has reportedly been investigating Rasheem’s death and is currently working with local police and sheriff’s investigators. Memorial service plans for Rasheem are on pause as the State Crime Lab investigation is still underway, Tiffany confirmed.
“We’ve paid for the funeral arrangements already, but we can’t do anything until the crime lab releases his body,” she said.
Felicia shared that her sister is “very angry.”
“My sister is very angry. The only contact she’s had with the crime lab was when they came to swab her inner jaw for a DNA sample,” she said.
