NBA Star Chris Paul Graduates From HBCU After 20 Year Hiatus

Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul graduated from Winston-Salem on December 16. As reported by Marc J Spears and Sports Illustrated, Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications after an almost 20-year hiatus from Wake Forest, where he was pursuing his degree before being drafted to the NBA in 2005.

In an interview, Paul described being excited and having long awaited the graduation ceremony. He said, “I’m excited. Long time coming. My brother was the first person to graduate in my family. To be able to go back home and do that with my family is something that snuck up kinda quick … but I’m probably most excited that I get to spend the next ten days with my wife and my kids.”

After receiving his degree, the Sun’s star also awarded $2500 to each of the members of his graduating class to continue the consistent contributions he’s made to HBCUs and their students in the past.

Chris Paul attended his graduation just after winning a game 111-95 against the LA Clippers. Paul made big moves on and off the court by scoring 15 points and racking up 13 assists before accepting his degree.
