Nellie-Jean Robinson’s Viral Video About Facial Hair Highlights Hirsutism

A Florida woman’s video about her facial hair has gone viral on social media.

Thirty-five-year-old Nellie-Jean Robinson has a condition called hirsutism, a condition that results in excessive facial hair. Robinson has documented her journey on TikTok and Instagram to help other women and girls who may be affected by hirsutism.

The video follows the woman in a countdown before she goes to get her face waxed. Robinson told BuzzFeed that she wanted to normalize her condition to help others feel better about themselves.

“My goal was to reach my 14-year-old self or any young woman who was struggling with the same affliction,” she said. “So they would know that they’re not alone and that they are beautiful and don’t have to be embarrassed

or ashamed of having facial hair.”

At one point in the video, she realized she forgot to take some aspirin beforehand and hilariously looks at the camera with concern.

“Watch me go from 🧔🏽➡️🧑🏽‍🦲 thank you@luminouswaxandesthetics #fyp #yasclean #hirsutismwax #pcosawareness #pcosawareness#ROMWEGetGraphic.”

Robinson said that she’d tried several types of hair removal in the past, only for it to come back longer and stronger than before. She finally decided to try waxing after it was recommended to her, but she was hesitant after being told she had to grow out her facial hair for 4 weeks first.

Because she had to wear a mask anyway due to the pandemic, she decided to give it a try.

“Got PeeSeeOhEs? Me too.. let’s create a SAFE environment to have a HEALTHY conversation surrounding this disease and redefine the CONVENTIONAL standards of beauty!”

Robinson said that having her face waxed definitely wasn’t easy but well worth it.

“I want women — especially those who have been newly diagnosed — to know that you are beautiful the way you are, with or without the hair, because it doesn’t define you as a person. Having a great character is the real flex, and, unfortunately, in today’s society, it’s something people overlook.”

And she looks gorgeous!
