Alvin Kamara, the running back for the New Orleans Saints, entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanour charge.

On July 11, as part of a plea agreement, Kamara will pay the medical expenses of a man who was beaten unconscious at a Las Vegas nightclub before the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl, according to Sky Sports.

Three other men, including Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons, pleaded guilty to lesser charges. The agreement allowed all defendants to avoid trial and possible jail time.

None of the four defendants were present in court for the written plea agreement.

Each was represented by their attorney before Clark County District Court Judge Tara Clark Newberry. Kamara’s attorney, David Chesnoff, confirmed the court’s decision and revealed that his client was sentenced to 30 hours of community service in New Orleans after pleading no contest to a breach of the peace charge.

“Alvin is pleased that this matter is behind him and looks forward to a successful NFL season,” Chesnoff and attorneys Richard Schonfeld and Drew Findling said in a statement on Kamara’s behalf.

Lammons, a 27-year-old cornerback, made a plea for a similar breach of peace charge. As part of the agreement, Kamara and Lammons will jointly pay Darnell Greene Jr. of Houston approximately $210,000 to cover his medical expenses resulting from the beating.

The attorneys representing Lammons, Young, and Harris did not respond to messages from The Associated Press.

According to Prosecutor Parker Brooks, Greene was kept informed throughout the process and approved the plea agreement.

Additionally, Greene’s attorney confirmed that the $10 million civil lawsuit filed against Kamara last year in Civil District Court of Orleans has been settled.

“The settlement terms are confidential,” attorney Tony Buzbee said. “It was separate from the criminal matter. We settled with all parties, to include Chris Lammons.”

Buzbee mentioned that Kamara and Lammons both apologized in writing to Greene.

According to Greene’s claim, he was knocked out for more than two minutes and received injuries to his face, shoulder, back, head, knees, and neck.

Kamara was arrested on Feb. 6, 2022, following his participation in the NFL Pro Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. According to police, he told them he hit a man because he felt he had done something to someone in his group and was attempting to flee.

Lammons, Young, and Harris surrendered when police filed arrest warrants for them in mid-February 2022.

More than a year after the incident, all four men were indicted on felony violence and misdemeanour conspiracy to commit battery charges in February.

The felony charge included a possible state jail penalty of one to five years.

According to police, Greene approached a group near an elevator at Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell Las Vegas Hotel & Casino before being punched, kicked, and stomped on.

The NFL is still considering suspending Kamara.

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review,” the NFL said in a statement.
