NFL Player Sergio Brown Facing Murder Charges A Month After Police Found His Mom Dead

NFL player Sergio Brown, 35, is now facing first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body concerning his mom’s death. Police transported him from San Diego to Illinois, ABC 7 reported

.

Brown appeared in court on Wednesday, Oct. 25, where the judge decided to keep Brown in custody once the state provided evidence that he posed a flight risk and danger to the public.

As Sis2Sis reported, police discovered the body of 73-year-old Myrtle Brown, the NFL player’s mother, in a creek behind her Illinois home after family members reported the two missing in September.

Police continued searching for the NFL player while a medical examiner inspected Brown’s body, finding injuries that appeared to have been from an assault.

Police decided to treat the investigation as a homicide.

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Jose Villarreal told the court that Myrtle’s other son felt something was wrong two days before police found his mother’s body.

“He began to worry because his text messages went unanswered,” Villarreal explained. “He didn’t hear from the victim on the 14th or 16th.”

In a video posted on social media, Brown claimed he thought his mom was on vacation, claiming the news was fake.

However, police found camera footage that allegedly captured Brown burning items in a fire pit on Sept. 14.

“Police later found burnt fabric in that same fire pit,” Villarreal explained.

Police also found blood on the patio of Myrtle’s home, claiming it matched Brown’s DNA.

Authorities discovered that Brown called an Uber to the airport to fly to Mexico on Sept. 15. He also used his mom’s credit card to book an Airbnb.

Cellphone footage captured Mexican officers apprehending Brown, who attempted to resist arrest before a physician on the plane convinced him to calm down on Oct. 7. They deported him back to the U.S.

The 35-year-old is behind bars without bail and will appear in court again on Nov. 22.
