North Carolina Parent Throws Bleach On Bus Driver

A North Carolina parent allegedly threw bleach on an elementary school bus driver.

On October 18, ABC 15 News reported that the 72-year-old bus driver said she was allegedly attacked by 30-year-old Regina Fields.

Charlotte-Mecklenberg School District (CMS) said it happened just after 7:30 am Tuesday near the 4600 block of Central Avenue.

“She just ran up to the bus in her bathrobe, and the last kid was getting on the bus, and that’s when she threw the Clorox,” the bus driver said. “All over my face, my clothes, the bus, all over the bus, I don’t think any got on the last kid that was getting on.”

Even now, she is still recovering.

“My face. My eyes. I have constant drops in my eyes. The burning,” the woman said.

According to WBTV, the 72-year-old victim was back driving the bus only a few days after the attack.

“I gotta work. I have no one to take care of me, so I’ve got to work, and I’m prayed up. God’s taking care of me.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police issued a statement saying, “it is illegal to board a school bus without permission, and that CMS has the right to press charges when warranted.”

CMS also said the parent was not at the scene when they arrived.

“I hope justice is served on them because those children should not have had to witness that kind of violence,” said a parent.

“I find it appalling, you know, especially, an adult should act like an adult and be mature. There’s never an excuse to attack somebody,” said Becca Valenstein.

Adam Johnson, the executive director of Transportation with CMS, said, “We have seen an uptick in parents that have approached the driver, and in most cases, it’s to confront another student.”

Fields has been charged with voluntary assault on an elementary school employee.
